SSHA is not a regulatory body but provides education, training and support, as well as leading on developments within sexual health advising. SSHA believes in the advocacy, protection and continual development of the Sexual Health Advising role as profession in its own right.
SSHA has developed professional resources which include Guidelines on Partner Notification and Sexual Health Advising Clinical Competencies. SSHA actively encourages members work, research, networking and continual professional development.
The National Organising Professional Committee LINK(OPC) consists of representatives from the different regions of the UK, the President, Treasurer, Secretary, Education officer. SSHA OPC meets at least 4 times a year to organise conferences/training and the smooth running of SSHA.
The Society of Sexual Health Advisers is a professional section within the Unite in Health sector. SSHA, through Unite, engages in responding to government and other relevant consultations working alongside other key professional organisations and partners in sexual health. In their working environments, members can expect support for their role, advice and guidance on professional matters from their peers. Unite supports SSHA in running conferences and training events.
Trade union check current costs £17.20 (offers same support as the other professional unions). You can be a member of two unions, although Unite will cover what other unions do.

450 Sexual Health Advisers around the country have joined forces to form SSHA which equates to approximately 90% of all Advisers in the UK and Ireland. Together as a member organisation we can influence the direction of our profession at a clinic, regional and national level.

Attendance is a must for all Sexual Health Advisers. The venues change each year. Presentations are usually made by Sexual Health Advisers and workshops covering a variety of themes impacting on our role make the event a winner with delegates. 2023 details available now.

Along with all other health professions, Sexual Health Advisers are moving, through SSHA, towards professional regulation. Health Advisers who are registered nurses may now be registered on Part 3 of the NMC register as Specialist Community Public Health Nurses (SCPHN).
